We know her for her smile. We also know her for her strength.
See that drum she has? Every day, Gertrude rolls it over two miles of bumpy, dirt terrain in 90-degree heat. It takes her 45 minutes to get there.
She then fills that drum from a 30-foot deep well using a one gallon bucket on a rope. Once full, she turns around and rolls the then 440-pound drum back home.
That’s how Gertrude gets water for her family, and she does it all with a smile and a laugh.
The biggest problem: the water she’s worked so hard for isn’t even clean.
Gertrude is one of The Next Million.
